Terry’s 2008 Legislative Report

In his first term, Terry devoted himself to the ‘bread and butter’ issues that our state government should address. Terry was the chief author of approximately 50 bills and co-authored another 139 bills.

Among the hightlights of Terry’s achievements in his first term are the following:
Leading a Transportation Transformation

  • MnDOT Deputy Commissioner/Chief Engineer position restored
  • Roads and Bridge Safety Improvement funding
  • Office of Pupil Transportation Safety for school bus safety created
  • Farm equipment/local bridge rules clarified

Enhancing Public Safety

  • Emergency 911 service expanded
  • New DVS computer to assist law enforcement

Investing in Regional Projects and Creating Jobs

  • Minnesota Prairie Line rail replacement
  • Gaylord storm water diversion project
  • Greater Minnesota transit funding
  • Center for Rural Policy and Development funding
  • Rural library/telecommunications improvement
  • Mankato MnDOT building project
  • MSU-Mankato Trafton Science Center completion
  • Traverse des Sioux Treaty Center completion
  • Fort Ridgely trail completion

Creating 21st Century Schools

  • $800M for K-12 schools in 2007
  • $51 per student ‘bridge money’ in 2008
  • Textbook price legislation

Getting the Job Done on Time and Within Budget

  • Balanced budget
  • Legislative sessions completed on time in both years
