June 2006

Between the rains this weekend, we had a wonderful time meeting folks in Nicollet during the town’s Friendship Days and sesquicentennial celebration.  As a former chair of St. Peter’s Heritage Preservation Commission and as a member of the Nicollet County Historical Society, I am happy to have joined the wonderful celebration.  Nicollet is a vibrant community, as the ceremonies to open the Nicollet school addition prove.  The school board’s approach–inviting the entire community to use the school– shows a commitment to providing daycare, a state-of-the-art theatre, excellent physical education, and more.  The next 150 years for Nicollet are off to a fantastic start!

Ruth Johnson and I attended Swedefest in Bernadotte on Saturday evening.  We have enjoyed this celebration for several years now—this year’s event was on a perfect evening as the rain cleared.  I met with a number of former Gusties, proving that the college’s Swedish roots remain strong.  If you get a chance, you might visit the Lutheran church in Bernadotte.  Once inside, you will discover a beautiful sanctuary and may be moved to contribute to the church’s fundraising efforts to pay for tuckpointing and other maintenance projects.

Terry congratulated the graduating class of 2006 and its family and friends during St. Peter High School’s commencement.
